Abstract
In this chapter, the author provides an overview of practices commonly found in teacher education programs in an attempt to respond to the question, “Where is the queerness in social studies teacher education?” He offers a vision and explanation of his understanding of what it means to queer something, while simultaneously engaging theory and practices he has witnessed or personally participated in over the tenure of his career as a teacher educator. He also discusses the concept of third space and how it also supports a queer(ed) vision of social studies teacher education. Ultimately, the author introduces and employs safe, positive, and queering moments within social studies as a framework in the hopes that more inclusive teaching, advising, and research will be practiced by social studies teacher educators nationwide.
