Abstract

How the structure of the ions determines the thermal properties of a salt remains poorly understood. Here the crystal structures of different imidazolium salts with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide anions have been compared with their Raman spectra to determine how the conformation of the anions changes with temperature and cation structure. This information provides clarity to the widely varying thermal properties of salts with only minor cation structural modifications. copyright The Electrochemical Society.
