Abstract

Clinical work and research in child audiology are based on the theory that the development of speech disorder can be secondary and due to primary disturbance of perceptual processes. This theory the confirmed by the results of studies on children with serious speech disorders. Studies on a group of 47 children with bad educational achievements point to the fact that educational results of the verbal or non verbal kind, among them the learning of reading and writting, writing, be affected by primary perceptual disorders. In 60% of these educational failures tactile kinesthetic perceptual processes were affected, serial ones in 30% and in intermodal 10%. Slightly more than half of the tactile kinesthetically affected children showed mixed forms and in addition a serial or visual component. Visual or auditive problems by themselves do not seem to cause any real reading or writting difficulties. The author points out the problems of interpretation of test results in children with perceptual disorders, briefly mentions a few principles of the treatment of such children and also the fact of our little knowledge in this field.
