Abstract
The effects of a commensurate, periodic array of columnar pins on the vortex lattice melting transition in highly anisotropic, layered, high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs) in a magnetic field were studied. Thermodynamic properties and equilibrium density distributions were obtained. A line of first-order transitions was experimentally observed.
