Abstract

An animated visualization of the 3-D structure of a microtubule for an extensive structural analysis using state-of-the-art technology is reported. The use of a mathematical model for 3-D reconstruction and a hierarchical data structure provides a simple but concrete representation of a microtubule on 16-mm film and videotape. The modeling, motion control, and rendering of the 3-D image are discussed.
