Abstract

Thin film technology is used to fabricate a small, high heat flux heater element. A Nichrome film deposited on a quartz substrate serves as both the heater surface and a resistance thermometer. The heater design, the fabrication techniques, and the calibration procedure are presented. An example boiling curve is included to illustrate the performance of the heater element.
