Abstract
Upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is one of the most common reasons for hospital admission worldwide with associated significant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Appropriate management of upper GI bleeding requires prompt risk stratification, early medical interventions, and adept endoscopic therapy to minimize morbidity and mortality. Important advances in the medical management and endoscopic treatment of upper GI bleeding have occurred over the last couple of decades. This chapter reviews the standard evidence-based management of upper GI bleeding and focuses on recent advances in endoscopic therapy for upper GI bleeding.
