Abstract

We investigated the time to fixation or loss and the probability of fixation of a gene under a discrete diploid model of variable fitness. Data were presented on the effects of the level of dominance, relative magnitude of the variance in fitness of the three genotypes, and selection intensity on the probability of fixation and time to absorption of a gene. The relationship of our model in the haploid case to that of Kimura and Ohta was discussed.
