Abstract
Extreme travel involves journeying to remote destinations or participating in unusual activities far off the beaten path in international or in wilderness locales. Extreme activities are often excluded from travel insurance evacuation policies, and typically an additional "adventure rider" or "sports rider" must be purchased. Adventure travel is growing at a rate of 10% per year and is the fastest area of growth in the tourism industry. The primary morbidity and mortality risks with adventure travelers are trauma and cardiovascular events.
