Abstract

Transverse vibration techniques were used to identify deteriorated wood floor systems. The non destructive techniques (NDE) used were stress wave and ultrasonic transmission. A stress wave was introduced into a specimen in the transverse direction by the transmitting transducer. Sections of deterioration in wood materials were located with the techniques. The effect of deterioration in the salvaged floor was detectable by a decrease in frequency when compared to the frequency of the floor sections.
