Abstract

In this paper, we present our results of a traffic flow simulation study on a section of Minnesota State Highway 194, one of the most heavily traveled and congested roadways in the Duluth area. The ability to better understand traffic in that area will provide for better traffic management and better traveler information. The traffic simulation system architecture which includes the traffic flow models, the traffic detector, the data base and data interfacing/handling system is briefly described. Based on the simulation system implemented, the results are then presented. Discussion together with possible improvements are also given.
