Abstract

Here the essentials of the expertise of managing are presented as orientation toward (ethos, stance, and gaze), knowledge about, and knowledge how-to (“know-how”). These are grounded to specific content, summarized, and then connected to a typology of managing evaluation. The orienting questions for the field are reviewed to reveal what it means to prepare expert evaluation managers and expertise in managing evaluation. This includes very brief introductions to curricula, pedagogy, and learning styles. A short discussion presents a proposed managing career path for evaluators and nonevaluators. The chapter ends with two answers to focal questions of the text and a stance for the profession on the practice and preparation for managing evaluation.
