Abstract

Writing is perhaps the quintessential discourse process. From the simplest note we leave on the kitchen table (perhaps reminding a roommate to take out the trash), to the formulated message sent by email (again, as a polite reminder to take out the trash), to the short essay, and finally to the longer report that likely took months to compose-writers purposely plan, compose, erase, recompose, reread, reflect, and make conscious decisions about what to put on the page.
