Funding Information:from across the world. Now, festivals are also important sites for financing films, both features and documentaries. For instance, the Bertha Fund of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam supports projects whose directors hail from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and parts of Eastern Europe, adding nuance to the financed films’ geographic origins. And while funds like these are, in part, a reflection of contemporary politics—in particular neoliberalism’s devastating effects on state support for nonfiction media—they also open a new chapter in the long, entangled history of film festivals and the idea of international documentary.
