Abstract

In this chapter we discuss, from an evolutionary perspective, the response of cancer cell populations to therapeutic intervention. There are many factors that influence therapeutic response. Here we focus on examples of cell-intrinsic and -extrinsic mechanisms of current interest to the cancer biology and evolution communities: the roles of (1) phenotypic plasticity and (2) the tumor microenvironment.
