The RF continued its support of program project grants as well as its annual support of the Norman Nigro Research Lecture initiated by the Executive Council of the ASCRS in 1988. It continued to award the Hirsch Research Awards and conducted a lay seminar on colon cancer in 1992. When Dr. Mazier assumed the presidency of the Society in 1992, the RF elected Dr. Guthrie as its president. By 1993, RF assets were $700,000 and grants totaling $85,000 were being awarded annually. In 1994, the RF assisted with the creation of the Kenneth A. Forde Professorship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Columbia University.
