Abstract
The authors review the clinical applications of recent research into the pharmacokinetics of psychotropic medications in the elderly. The availability of more sensitive analytic techniques and the many important clinical applications of pharmacokinetic research have contributed to increasing interest in this field. The pharmacokinetics of drugs used by the elderly is of special importance because the elderly, who comprise an increasing proportion of the population, frequently use drugs in combinations that alter their pharmacokinetics and are especially sensitive to the side effects of multiple drug usage.
