Abstract

The pathology of tumors arising in the sinonasal tract and skull base is often challenging due to the diversity of benign and malignant entities that occur in this anatomic region. A significant fraction of sinonasal cancers is related to inhaled toxins and oncogenic viruses, particularly the human papillomavirus (HPV) and the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Furthermore, the past decade has seen an increasing number of novel entities identified based on characteristic genetic alterations. This chapter provides an overview of the most common types of primary sinonasal malignancies. Several of the more uncommon entities will be discussed in Chap. 12.
