Abstract
The Registry for the International Society for Heart Transplantation has collected data on some 6,500 heart transplant recipients and 344 heart-lung recipients. Operative mortality in heart transplantation has decreased substantially since 1985. There has been a recent increase in cardiac complications following heart transplantation. Congenital heart disease is a significant risk factor in heart transplantation. More patients are undergoing heart-lung transplantation for cystic fibrosis. Improved survival is seen with triple-drug immunosuppression in both heart and heart-lung recipients.
