Abstract
Awarded the biennial Best First Book Prize (2005) of the International Society of Anglo-
Saxonists (ISAS); the award is for the best first monograph published during the two-year
period 2003-2004 in all the fields of Anglo-Saxon studies: history, literary criticism, art
history, theology, archaeology, manuscript study.
Awarded the John Nicholas Brown Prize (2008) of the Medieval Academy of America;
the award is for the best first monograph published in 2004 by a member of the association,
which represents all the disciplines of medieval studies: history, literary criticism, art
history, theology, archaeology, manuscript study.
