Abstract

The effect of NiP seed layer on CoCrPt perpendicular recording media has been studied. It was observed that the well isolated, small cluster of amorphous NiP layer helped to reduce the grain size, and the grain size distribution of the CoCrPt magnetic layer. The improvement in grain size and distribution also lead to better magnetic and recording properties.
