Abstract
Free convection heat transfer due to the simultaneous action of buoyancy and induced magnetic forces is investigated. The analysis is carried out for laminar boundary-layer flow about an isothermal vertical plate. It is found that the free convection heat transfer to liquid metals may be significantly affected by the presence of a magnetic field; but that very small effects are experienced by other fluids.
