Abstract
Prostate cancer is a typical disease that affects many men aged 40 and above. A biopsy is an invasive procedure for prostate cancer examination that requires skill and experience. In this project, a new transrectal ultrasound biopsy system is designed and developed. This system is a tissue sampling system for prostate cancer biopsy operation, which would provide ultrasonic image conformation of the location of biopsy samples and be able to obtain 4~6 samples without the need to remove the system from rectum and reinsert it. The system consists of an ultrasound imaging instrument, biopsy tool, and a tissue sample storage device. The system function objectives are summarized, and a conceptual design scheme is developed. Based on the analysis of the system functions, a 3-dimensional model of this device has been built up.
