Abstract
Innovations in blood bank techniques and recent developments in immunology have greatly improved the prognosis of patients whose survival depends on chronic, long-term blood transfusion. The use of fractionated blood products, improvements in chelation therapy, and advances in platelet therapy are discussed in detail in the third article in our hematology series.
