Abstract
Transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVR) is a noninvasive procedure to treat patients with severe aortic stenosis (SAS) or valvular regurgitation (VG). Early studies of TAVR and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) percentages have shown to improve after the procedure. This study explores improving LVEF after TAVR using alternate site pacing staring at the left bundle branch (LBB). The procedure was carried out with a reanimated swine heart leveraging Visible Heart® methodologies. The experiment was recorded with endoscopic cameras, echocardiography, and fluoroscopy. Measurements of LVEF were obtained through calculations of the echocardiography images. This study demonstrates a repeatable methodology for assessing LVEF improvement after TAVR with alternate site pacing, providing a foundation for future research aimed at optimizing cardiac function in patients with SAS and VG.
