Abstract
This concluding piece situates these previous chapters within the current research literature and broader recent policy developments. We then synthesize key themes and take-aways from the chapters and argue that, taken together, these chapters point to opportunities for mutual enhancement of both SSoBL programs and institutions of higher education (IHEs). Opportunities include potential increases to world language enrollments, addressing long-standing equity and teacher shortage issues, fostering collaboration across IHEs, and positive changes in college-level language instruction and pedagogy. We conclude by considering institutional risks and potential unintended consequences, as well as the value of federal-level programs to support these rapidly developing initiatives.
