Abstract

A brief survey of existing techniques for convection/diffusion phase-change is given. A technique based on an enthalpy function and a control volume discretization is introduced. The proposed enthalpy method is investigated by application to a problem of freezing under natural convection. Central to this investigation is the study of alternative techniques for dealing with the moving solid/liquid interface, a feature which is recognised as a major consideration in the development of numerical techniques for convective/diffusive phase-change problems.
