Classical doubly-terminated lossless networks designed to meet maximum available power bounds are known to have good passband sensitivity. In this paper, a synthesis method for ladder WDFs (Wave Digital Filters) corresponding to the classical doubly-terminated lossless networks is developed. The synthesis procedures are carried out only in the digital domain so that no knowledge of LC filter or microwave filter theory is needed. The length of the critical path of the designed WDFs can be chosen optimally depending upon applications such that both the speed requirement and the hardware minimization are satisfied at the same time. For narrow-band sharp-transition filters, the pipelining level of the designed WDF can be increased further by applying the DIFIR (Decomposed & Interpolated FIR) method.
