Abstract

Protonation of Na₃[Ta(CO)₅] in liquid ammonia provides the thermally unstable Na[Ta(CO)₅NH₃], which may be isolated as the crystalline and deep violet salt [Ph₄As][Ta(CO)₅NH₃]. Sodium amminepentacarbonyltantalate(1-) reacts with PMe₃, PPh₃, P(OMe)₃, AsPh₃, SbPh₃, CNtBu and CN^- at about 0°C in NH₃/THF to give exclusively the corresponding [Ta(CO)₅L]^z. These have been isolated as tetraethylammonium salts in 54-84% yields.
