Abstract

The first dinitrosyls of niobium and tantalum, cis-[M(NO)2(CNXyl)4]+, have been prepared by direct nitrosylation of [M(CO)6]- (M = Nb, Ta) with 2 equiv of [NO]+ in the presence of 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide, CNXyl. These new complexes have been fully characterized by IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectra as well as X-ray crystallography.
