Abstract

Two infants and one child died suddenly and unexpectedly while receiving central venous hyperalimentation. The catheter tip in each case was wedged against myocardium resulting in myocardial necrosis and pericardial effusion. The importance of avoiding intracardiac indwelling hyperalimentation catheters is stressed.
