Study of polyurethanes and polyureas by transmission spectra of Fourie transform infrared spectroscopy

Abstract

Four model compounds including polyurethane-urethane (MDI/PPO-OH/BDO), polyureaurethane (MDI/PPO-NH2/BDO), polyurethane-urea (MDI/PPO-OH/BDA), polyurea-urea(MDI/PPO-NH2/BDA) were synthesized by a two-step solution polymerization method. Transmission spectra of Fourie transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to study the hydrogen bonds at the interface of the phase boundaries and within the hard segment domains. Comparison of the spectra obtained by FTIR and ATR in analyzing the four different segmented polyurethanes were made.
