Abstract

This paper describes the intergranular and transgranular stress corrosion cracking of Type 304 stainless steel in high purity water. Intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) was observed at temperatures above 150 degree C and oxygen concentrations approximately in excess of 100 ppb. Transgranular stress corrosion cracking (TGSCC) was observed at all test temperatures and oxygen concentrations approximately less than 100 ppb.
