Abstract

The cytoarchitecture of cells is dictated by the organization of microtubules. Microtubules assemble through the process of 'dynamic instability,' a two-state behavior which is believed to permit rapid spatial redistribution of the microtubule array. This article describes several models for dynamic instability and also determines which among these models accurately predict the level of oscillations experimentally observed.
