Abstract

This chapter reports on the current status of non-pharmacological somatic interventions (hereto forth simply called somatic interventions) to treat psychiatric illness. It includes discussion of electroconvulsive therapy, more recent brain stimulation technologies (transcranial magnetic stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation, and deep brain stimulation), and neurosurgery for psychiatric conditions.
