Abstract

In lung surfactant research, chemical engineers can provide a complete and detailed picture of the phase behavior and properties of the mixture that lines the alveoli and allows the lungs to function properly. With this information, they will be able to develop novel replacement mixtures engineered for optimal performance and at low cost.
