Abstract
Solar energy systems have become popular in many American homes over the last few years as more people begin to realize the benefits these systems have to offer. Technological advances and improved industry standards have resulted in significant improvements in both performance and reliability of solar water heaters. Recent design innovations include the use of natural circulation heat exchangers and the thermosiphon design which eliminates the need for a pump and replaces the conventional water storage tank and external heat exchanger with a wrap-around heat-exchanger/tank combination. The government has also initiated various incentives to encourage more households to use solar water heaters in the form of tax rebates and financing programs.
