Social Impacts of Technology with the Emergence of IoT, 5G, and Artificial Intelligence

With the widespread use of the Internet by the early 1990s, an immediate effect on society was observed. Research has been carried out since the advent of the new communication technologies and other related technologies that have affected all aspects of human living. The technologies affect how humans interact. However, technologies come with both positive and negative impacts. New problems arose such as security and privacy which are still relevant today. As technology continues to develop, we are observing more positive impacts such as improved patient care and accurate diagnosis of health problems. The integration of various technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence is having impacts socially, economically, and on services. New technologies are also being developed, such as drone technology, robotics, smart cities, driverless vehicles, and others. We have yet to see the impact these new technologies will have on humans socially when they are completely developed and deployed. Research will continue on the impact of technology on human life from a social aspect as well as other aspects. In this chapter, the social impact of the emergence of new technologies, including IoT, 5G, and artificial intelligence, is evaluated and documented. The complete aspects of the social impact of these technologies cannot be covered in one chapter; however, this chapter attempts to highlight the most important aspects. The chapter concludes with a detailed discussion and analysis.
