Abstract
Sera collected from 1480 breeding swine from 26 swine herds in Minnesota were tested for sperm antibodies by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). There were 22.2% of 1187 females which tested positive, compared with 20.1% of 293 males (P > 0.05). The presence of sperm antibody in serum increased with age (P < 0.0001) but was not associated with farm of origin (P = 0.7143). This study indicated that sperm antibody was present in some of the breeding swine sampled and may be one of the factors contributing to the infertility and culling of breeding stock in swine herds.
