Abstract
A management information system or MIS is a computer based information system to support not only the operational data processing requirements of an organization, but also to support management activities such as planning, control, and decision making. The paper surveys the MIS concept and the general structure of an MIS. The value in the MIS of realtime man/machine interaction is explored. The current state of the art in implementing such systems is described and causes of failures identified.
