Sensitivity distribution in the synthesis solution space of four-bar linkages

Abstract

This paper describes the sensitivity to tolerances of four-bar linkage link angles in terms of two non-dimensional quantities σ and τ. The traces of these quantities are plotted in the (λ134) space thus allowing the designer to synthesize a four-bar linkage with a prescribed sensitivity value and predict the tolerance required to achieve a certain accuracy on link angles.
