Abstract

Simple dental extractions are a mainstay of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Thorough preparation via patient interview, examination, and consultations is indicated. The basic principles of simple extractions include reflecting the marginal gingiva, elevating or luxating the tooth, and delivering the tooth with a forceps. The socket is then curetted and irrigated. Knowledge of different techniques is helpful in preserving alveolar bone for eventual reconstruction with removable prosthesis or dental implants..
