Abstract
Long-term care can be provided in a variety of ways and settings. Family physicians often are called on to assist in decisions of where and what kind of long-term care should be used for individual patients and communities. On an on-going basis, family physicians must provide oversight of care for their patients receiving long-term care. Understanding the similarities and differences between home care and care in nursing facilities is required to perform these tasks effectively.
