Abstract

Thus there is considerable evidence that at least some cases of juvenile-onset diabetes mellitus are due to viral infections. EMCV-induced diabetes provides an experimental counterpart to the clinical situation. The authors experiments indicating that islet transplantation can ameliorate virus-induced diabetes mellitus are encouraging for clinical application of islet transplantation.
