Abstract

This study demonstrates utilization of VSP data for resolving interpretation ambiguity from surface seismic data. The downgoing waves from a suitably designed VSP survey are combined to simulate a tomography problem. The solution lends itself to a velocity model that helps to resolve ambiguity in interpretation. Additionally the ray coverage derived from the final model helps to obtain an understanding of spatial resolving power of the particular tomographic data set.
