Abstract

Thirteen work groups and their advisers bear the major responsibility for developing the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) by 1993. A work group has been appointed for each major category of disorders and for multiaxial issues. This second DSM-IV in Progress column presents the first of ongoing reports from various work groups about theoretical and practical issues they are trying to resolve.
