Abstract
Nanoindentation is an invaluable technique for the determination of surface modulus, hardness and viscoelastic properties of polymer films. Using the nanoindentation technique, the material functions of the three polymer films differing in relaxation behavior are reported and contrasted to their bulk behavior in terms of morphological differences. It is shown that tan delta of polyvinyl butyral is greater and its elastic modulus is lower than either polyester or polycarbonate consistent with its lower glass transition temperature.
