Abstract
Experience with stream regulation and rehabilitation in south-west Germany is reviewed. Dissatisfaction with the structural defects and poor aesthetics of channelized rivers led to a restoration programme, the main features of which are described, with examples. Preliminary guidelines on rehabilitation arising from the programme are outlined and discussed. (D.W.T.)
