N2 - We have provided an overview as to the important areas of regulation of glycolysis, glucose entry, glucose phosphorylation, F-2,6-P2, and the regulation of glycolytic enzyme gene expression. This is shown schematically in Fig. 2. A major role for insulin in this regulation has been clearly established. There are still many complex areas such as substrate channeling, substrate pooling, enzyme compartmentalization, and enzyme complex formation that are not well understood and where the role of insulin remains to be defined. Also, as the results of genomic and proteomic studies highlight changes in the metabolic enzymes involved in glycolysis, perhaps we will be able to more fully understand the workings of this important pathway, (Chemical Presented) which has the deepest, richest, and oldest biochemical history.
