Abstract
ALTHOUGH successful reassembly of a number of spherical viruses has been reported1-5, this has hitherto only been accomplished in conditions which are clearly non-physiological. We now report the reassembly of cowpea chlorotic mottle virus (CCMV) in mild conditions, ∼pH 6, ionic strength 0.1 or 0.2 and 20 to 25 °C; conditions which are plausible for an in vivo assembly reaction.
